Spotlight: Love in the First Degree by Mychael Black #LGBT #GayRomance #EroticRomance

Love_cover
Robbie Sexton is heading home to north Alabama for his father’s funeral. In Baltimore, he could be himself, but in Athens, Alabama, he figures he’ll be back in the proverbial closet. The only one who knows he’s even gay is his cousin Danny. Of course, that’s when life decides to throw him a curveball. Thanks to a bit of matchmaking on Danny’s part, Robbie meets Seth Ellis, one of the newest ranch hands on his uncle’s farm. Before long, he realizes maybe heading home wasn’t such a bad idea.
Over several months, Robbie’s life winds up in a bit of a whirlwind. Between becoming an uncle himself, dealing with his bigoted brother, and trying to start over in the tattoo business, he has his hands full. But there remains one constant in his life: Seth.

“Wow. Very nice. You an artist?”
The sexy drawl pulled Robbie’s attention from the sketchbook on his lap to the tall, tanned body standing in front of him. If he looked straight ahead, his line of sight was dead level with the man’s crotch. Even through a layer of faded denim, it was obvious the man had plenty to offer. Gaze continuing upward, Robbie drank in the sweat-slick skin, stretched taut over chiseled muscles and tanned to soft gold. A light dusting of pale brown hair—bleached gold by the sun—began at the man’s chest and drew a path down his sun-kissed torso, only to disappear beneath his jeans.
His shoulders were broad, and the sleeves of his open blue plaid shirt were rolled up, tight around hard biceps. A black cowboy hat sat on his head, cocked forward just enough to hide his face. Then the man tipped the hat back, taking Robbie’s breath away. Eyes greener than the new spring grass reflected the man’s easy smile. The slightest hint of a five o’clock shadow gave him a ruggedly sexy look. Not that he needed the help.
“Name’s Seth Ellis,” the sun god said, extending a hand downward.
Regaining his composure, Robbie stood and brushed the grass off of his right hand before shaking Seth’s. “Robbie Sexton.”
“I’m really sorry about your dad.”
“Thanks,” Robbie said. As Seth released his hand, Robbie noticed it was done with a bit of hesitation. Now that was promising. “I’m gonna grab a beer. You wanna join me?”
“Sure.”
Robbie snuck around the porch and into the front yard, snagging two beer bottles from one of the big coolers and making it away without being seen. Hell, yes! The day was looking up! He returned to Seth and handed him one of the bottles.
“Follow me,” he said. “I know some of the best places around here where a man can find some peace.”
“Of what?” Seth chuckled before taking a long drink.
Robbie glanced over at him. “If the right person’s offering…” He left the rest unsaid, waiting to see if Seth took the bait.
A smile played across Seth’s lips just before they oh-so-slowly wrapped around the mouth of the beer bottle. “So,” Seth said after his sip, “is he offering?” He flashed Robbie a wicked grin from behind the bottle, followed by a quick wink.
Robbie’s throat went dry as cotton as he stared at Seth, or rather Seth’s tongue as it did obscene things to the beer bottle. What the hell had Danny been telling the man?
Clearing his throat, Robbie remembered how to do something other than stare. “I’m guessing you’ve spoken to my cousin Danny.”
Seth grinned. “You could say that.”
Robbie licked his lips. If anything, life wouldn’t be boring here now. “This way,” he said quickly. He forced himself to walk when he wanted to run.
Just as they rounded the corner of the combine barn, a strong hand gripped his arm. Within seconds, Robbie was captive, body caught between the hard metal building and an equally hard cowboy. Hips rocking, Seth ground against him, tongue pushing into Robbie’s mouth without any hesitation. The cowboy tasted like beer and sun and male, blazing hot, breath almost scorching as the kiss moved from Robbie’s mouth to his throat.
“Oh, fuck,” Robbie breathed. His head swam as long fingers found the button of his jeans, popping them open. Then those fingers were inside, slipping into his underwear, tips brushing the head of his prick. Robbie gasped and held on, arms draped over Seth’s shoulders.
“So hot,” Seth murmured, moving back up to take Robbie’s mouth in another searing kiss.
God, this man was unbelievable.

RELEASING APRIL 2018

He wants to taste her, to touch her, to claim her. And once he does, he’ll never let her go.

Mara:

I was daddy’s little girl, until he didn’t come home one day. Mom moved on, married a rich guy I can’t stand, and his son, Sebastian Rossi, wants what he can’t have – me. I didn’t realize when I chose to run that I would crash down a mountain, or that the man who pulled me from the wreckage would rescue me in every way that counts. Rocky is the biggest, sexiest badass I’ve ever seen. And the more time I spend with him, the more I want to feel his lips on mine, his hands holding me, his body claiming me. I want him so bad I can taste it, but the stubborn man says I’m too young. I’ll just have to prove him wrong.

Rocky:

All I wanted was to brood in peace and quiet on my mountaintop while I tried to outrun my demons. I never expected that past to show up in the form of a sexy as fuck woman -- a woman I shouldn’t touch. I’m not only twenty years older than her, I’m part of the reason her dad never came home. I’ll do anything it takes to keep her safe, even go home to Alabama. My brothers, the Dixie Reapers, will help protect her. I’m just not sure who’s going to protect her from me, because if I ever get my hands on all those curves, I’m not ever going to let her go.

About the Book

With a rogue shifter on the loose leaving a trail of bodies, it isn't the best time for bear shifter, Roarke Hilliard to have his heat cycle. Especially since he's the lead Special Agent on the case. But nature must take its course. When his partner, agent Spencer Malloy, places himself in Roarke's path during his greatest time of need, the bear is worried he might break the human. But Spencer wants Roarke badly... bad enough to call in a paranormal escort.

Grigore Gabor may be a male escort, but he's never slept with any of his clients... until now. The moment the wolf shifter gets a whiff of the bear who hired him, and his human companion, he knows he's found his mates. But getting the surly ursa to agree is another matter.

With a killer on the loose, now isn't the time for finding true love. With Roarke handicapped by his heat cycle, there's only so much the agents can do against the rogue shifter. They can only hope to bring the man to justice before another body is found.

A little Tease...

Roarke shut off the water and dried off, wrapping the towel around his waist. Steam filled the room and the door handle was slick under his palm. The cool air of the hotel room washed over him as he stepped out of the bathroom. His partner sat at the table by the window flipping through crime scene photos from the previous victims.

Spencer looked up, scanning him from head to toe. “Not that I haven’t seen it all before, but don’t you think someone would get the wrong idea if they saw you running around in a towel? I believe it was you who said things should remain professional between us.”

“Is your nose still out of joint that I wouldn’t sleep with you that night we got drunk?”

Spencer shrugged. “I told you it was more than the alcohol talking. I haven’t made it a secret that I want you.”

“You aren’t the fling type and I can’t offer you anything more. I’m not the type of man to take a mate. I’m married to my job, same as you. Casual sex, yes. Long lasting relationship, no.”

Spencer snorted and turned back to the photos as Roarke pulled on a pair of gray slacks. “You know, we found semen at every crime scene except this last one. Maybe it’s not the same guy. Something doesn’t feel right. All the others were known prostitutes, but this kid is clean. Could the claw marks just be a coincidence?”

“You think the trail has gone cold and this body is just throwing us off track?”

Spencer scratched the back of his neck. “It’s possible. I downloaded the report from the police while you were in the shower. Kid’s in college, a freshman, comes from a good family, makes good grades. He was last seen leaving a party with an older man. From the witness accounts, the man was well dressed and well spoken. Does that sound like a rogue shifter to you? Most of the one we’ve caught didn’t seem that well put together.”

“No, it doesn’t.” Roarke picked up the file and leafed through it. “So he could be anywhere in the country by now. If this isn’t our guy.”

“Want to pack it in and head back to the office? Wait on another lead? You can’t deny you’d rather be home when you go through your heat.”

“Two shifters killing young men?” Roarke pursed his lips as he studied the photos again. “I guess it’s possible, but what are the chances? It isn’t like the shifter population is plentiful, especially in the south. Most of them moved to Canada where the laws are a little more lax when it comes to my species.”

Spencer tipped the chair back on its hind legs and folded his hands behind his head. “I guess if there’s another body, we’ll know for sure.”

“This is bullshit! Someone shouldn’t have to die in order for us to do our fucking jobs. I hate waiting. Every shifter has a unique scent. What if I posed as a local prostitute and waited him out? Since he didn’t get very far with the boy, it’s possible he’s still on the prowl. I’d be able to fight him off if he attacked.”

Spencer’s lips tipped up on one corner. “If you’re wanting to play the part of a prostitute, I’d be happy to purchase your services.”

Roarke smacked him upside the head with the file. “Would you be serious?”

“Oh, I am.”

Roarke shook his head in disgust. “It’s not happening.”

“We’ll see. Your heat is coming soon, like you said. You’re going to need someone, and unless you’re going to break the law and pay some guy to let you have your way with him, then I’m all you’ve got. Look at it this way, I know the score. You’ve told me you don’t want to settle down and I won’t expect it of you. But we can have one hell of a good time.”

“Stop thinking with your dick.”

Spencer pushed down on his growing erection. “Can’t help it. I haven’t been laid in months. The asshole I was seeing before you and I became partners decided to move on to greener pastures. Greener meaning younger and better looking.”

“If you’re fishing for compliments, I’m not taking the bait.”

Spencer smirked. “You want me and you know it. I even have the pictures to prove it.”

“You’re an ass.”

Roarke finished dressing and dragged Spencer back into the daylight, and away from the temptation of the motel bed. One thing was for sure, he needed to find someone fast, or he might very well turn to Spencer, and that had the potential or ruining their partnership. He might lust after the cute human, but there were some lines a bear just didn’t cross.

Excerpt

The ship grew quiet and Wrylack tried to communicate with his fellow cyborgs, but no one was responding. He feared they’d all been killed, which meant the Meori would come for him next, once they realized he was on board. He could hear the clang of boots coming down the corridor and braced himself. When the doors to the med bay slid open, he stared at the green and gold aliens, with their serpent-like eyes and tongues.

They looked him over, laughing when they saw the scalpel clutched in his hand. Two held ion blasters pointed at him, and he knew there was no way he was taking them out. Not on his own and only armed with the scalpel.

The three Meori in front hardly had a scratch on them, but the ones in back were pooling blood on the floor. Wrylack tried not to smile at the sight. It seemed his brothers had fought hard, even if they hadn’t been victorious. Would they kill him now too?

“The healer thinks to fight us,” the larger one up front said.

Little did they know he could kick their asses, if it weren’t for the unfair advantage of the blasters in their hands. He might be enhanced, but he wasn’t indestructible. Going into a blaster fight with nothing more than a scalpel would get him killed.

“Where’s my crew?” Wrylack asked.

The alien shrugged. “Alive, but incapacitated.”

Why hadn’t they killed everyone? What was it they wanted?

“And your plan for us?” Wrylack asked.

The alien smiled, his pointed teeth showing. “The others will be dropped at Alpha9, for a fee of course, and we’re commandeering this ship. You, however…” The alien looked him over again. “We need a medic. Ours died and since your cyborg brothers did some damage, my crew will need to be tended. Serve us well and you will be rewarded.”

Wrylack could read between the lines. Service would be required regardless, if he wanted to live. He would imagine the reward would be his freedom. What they didn’t know was that the moment he’d laid eyes on them, he’d hacked into the telecommunications system and had the computer send a message to the commanders on Xpashta, with their present location and who had taken command of the ship. It wouldn’t be long before the cyborgs’ other ships were on their way to lend aid. He only hoped it wouldn’t be too late.

One of the Meori gripped his arm tight, making the nerves in his arm go numb and the scalpel fell from his hand, clattering to the floor. Wrylack allowed himself to be dragged through the ship and taken aboard the Meori vessel. He wasn’t stupid enough to think he could take on two ships himself, which meant he had to follow orders and stay alive until backup arrived. The ship was much larger than The Sphinx and had probably once been a luxury liner, judging by the artwork on the walls and the dense carpet under his feet. Slave females of all races shuffled down the hallways and gathered in open rooms. Some were dressed in transparent tunics and he knew they were breeding stock. The thought made him ill.

When they reached medical, Wrylack was shoved inside and he froze at the sight before him. Two human females lay dead, the sheets covering them stained with blood, with a third huddled in the corner, her eyes wide in fright. Blood dripped down her arm and her clothes were torn. Anger welled inside of him and he turned to snarl at the Meori who had dragged him on board.

“You attacked innocent females?”

The Meori shrugged. “When we purchased them, we didn’t realize they wouldn’t be sexually compatible. Their master was raving about how good it felt to fuck them. We stopped a male from mounting the third when the first two died.”

Wrylack was horrified and sickened. Moving slowly, he approached the female in the corner. He knelt in front of her and used his cybernetic eyes to scan her. Aside from some bruising and the bite mark on her shoulder, she seemed to be healthy. All of her organs were in good working order, and he was thankful to note she wasn’t pregnant. Judging by the scarring in her womb, even if the Meori hadn’t been able to breed with her, someone had been successful at some point. The haunted look in her eyes spoke of someone who had lived this life for a while. His heart ached for her, imagining the horrors she’d probably faced as a slave.

Wrylack pulled aside her slave tunic and studied the bite. It was deep and the tissue around it was badly bruised. The Meori who had tried to mount her had likely bitten her to hold her in place. Wrylack hoped she’d fought like hell. No one deserved the fate of being a breeder, especially to the Meori. He stood quickly and rummaged through the cabinets until he found what he needed. With a tube of livron gel in his hand, he sank to his haunches in front of her again. Wrylack squeezed the gel onto his fingers and spread it over her wound. She flinched at his touch, but didn’t lash out at him. He knew the gel would cool the angry wound first, then numb it within minutes. If applied regularly, the wound would seal in a few days.

“My name’s Wrylack and I’m a medic,” he told her. “I’m going to help you.”

“She’s useless,” the Meori said. “No sense in treating her. We’re just going to toss her out an airlock. I can’t take the chance that she would sell right away when we reach Alpha9 and I don’t intend to stay there long. She’s a waste of space.”

Wrylack growled and glared at the Meori. “You’re not tossing her out an airlock.”

The Meori rocked back on his heels. “You seem rather fond of her.”

“She’s a helpless female.” Wrylack wasn’t about to admit that he thought she was the most beautiful female he’d ever seen. Looking into her eyes, he wanted to be her hero. But he was just as much a captive right as she was. But then, if they’d met under other circumstances, how likely was it that she’d have let a cyborg get anywhere near her? Especially him with his strange-looking eyes.

“And females are precious to your people, aren’t they?” the Meori asked slyly. Wrylack wasn’t certain he liked the look on the Meori’s face. “Do what we say, and you can keep her. Consider her your reward for good behavior.”

Keep her? Wrylack hesitated and glanced down at the female. Her hair was black as pitch and hung in long curls down to her ass. The elfin face that peered up at him had eyes a beautiful lavender, a color he’d never seen on a human before. The female’s skin was pale as ivory and had felt soft when he’d administered the gel to her wound. He lowered himself in front of her again, bracing his fist on the floor, and leaning in close. She didn’t shrink away or seem scared of him.

Her gaze met his, steady. When he reached for her, smoothing her hair back from her face, she didn’t so much as flinch.

“Do you know what I am?” he asked.

“No,” she said softly.

“I’m a Zelranian cyborg.”

“Is that why your eyes are so different?” she asked. “They’re beautiful when they glow. Why do they only glow sometimes?”

Her voice was soft and mesmerizing, much like her.

“My eyes are cybernetic, along with my lungs and heart. My eyes glow when I’m doing a scan to check for injuries. I’m different, even from my people. Does that frighten you?” he asked.

Her gaze strayed to the Meori in the doorway before returning to him. There was a question in her eyes that she didn’t seem to want to voice. The Meori had mentioned her previous owner had used for her sex, and the Meori had intended the same. It stood to reason she would wonder if he would hurt her if they were intimate.

“I won’t harm you,” Wrylack assured her. “Unlike the Meori, Zelranians are compatible with humans.”

Her cheeks flushed but she held his gaze.

“If they throw you out of the airlock, you’ll die,” Wrylack said. “Space is cold and your organs will begin to freeze, assuming you don’t die from asphyxiation first. I won’t force you to be mine, but it’s the only way I can save you.”

It hadn’t occurred to him until that moment that maybe she would prefer death. It saddened him to think she might feel that way, but there was something in her eyes that said she was a fighter.

“I’m Shaylee.” She smiled softly, seeming to accept that she was his now.

“Shaylee.” Wrylack reached for her again, smoothing his fingers down her cheek. “I will treat you well, this I promise.”
